They seem to be a source of instant gratification. Showing off an ass or shape to deliver a short term message with out considering the probable unpleasant consequences. Problem people can't see through the shallowness in such public behavior. To me, it might look sexy but I'm not attracted to it. I'm attracted to a lady who dresses to say more about herself than her curves.
