There is peace in finding companionship with something other than a person. It's an involatile right to find unique kinship with oneself through the medium of nature. It's as if the moon in your story is speaking with your voice and vice versa, and no one has a right to interfere with that relationship.
For me, wild rabbits are like your moon. I sometimes find myself in strange conversations. Still, it's a connection.
