The second half of my career (now retired) was heavily steeped in IoT, IoB, etc. The first half (beginning in the seventies) contained AI.
My primary concern is the socio-economic institutions that regulate tooling that brings us together. On one side of the balance are the possible benefits of harnessing the power of common sense and the goodwill of the global community, and on the other side are flawed democracies and autocracies that strive to control, even enslave, society. Those who seek power use concepts of God and country to manipulate us to cede our responsibility for all that happens to and around us. When I see the politics that drive debates on our border with Mexico or the legal jeopardy a pregnant woman faces, I shudder at the thought of being monitored. At the same time, misinformation is swallowed by the electorate as if it were a vitamin.
I fear humanity is not ready to manage the responsibility of being artificially connected while we can't even take responsibility for our momentary changes.
I enjoyed reading this piece, Dr. Yildiz.
