Since joining the platform, I've been fascinated to know the how and why of measurements and how it's hoped the data will benefit the writers and readers. I engage by clapping, highlighting, responding, following, and subscribing because I want it to mean something. We all expect to gain something by engaging. Those who choose to game an outcome are dishonest, and they eventually fail. Granted, the scams can take a long time to dissolve, and it's impossible to filter them out entirely. Medium’s quality initiative relies heavily on a philosophy of abundant goodness; that because it's innate, we will continue to sort the good from the bad and the ugly. For now, I'm okay enough with the metrics and how they're used because, at the core, I feel Medium is about enriching life through honest communication and finding mutual respect.
