Partners that fail to communicate are often placed on pedestals of impossible expectations rooted in stifling gender roles. It's frustrating, even creepy and frightening if someone wants you to believe they love you but can't or won't tell or show you why. Loving relationships are better than that. This poem called up an image of a work of art relegated to a shelf. To be admired but not held. To become property that must not be shared. It feels icy and lonely.
