I agree wholeheartedly with your thesis, Denis. But, I want to share a distinction between ‘looking back’ and acceptance. This is in context of abuse and other trauma.
Survivors of trauma often look back compelled and confused, unfortunately they are in a cycle of reaction. They are the ones most likely to commit suicide.
Survivors in the process of healing look back with willful intent. They must understand what they need to accept in order to move on. Survivors who find themselves firmly on their path toward actualization know they will always be challenged (triggered) by the trauma but they've found therapeutic means to not succumb to their negative ego. They learned acceptance is about their power to make healthy choices.
Looking back doesn't have to be taboo. I think it's necessary. And, it becomes a matter of what one does when they do.
