Caregiving, at its best, is grounded in self-care. Maybe your professional roles as a nurturing caregiver helped trigger this perspective at the right time. The family drama of codependency, at least for me, is the toughest to treat objectively. As an adult, even a teen, I took on various care roles, faintly aware I was also working on myself. The professional aspect kept me focused on positive outcomes for those I helped. Naturally, on another layer, I was helping myself.
